Announcing the Tucson J International Film Festival

Lights… camera… action! The Tucson J International Film Festival opens January 11, with in-person and virtual screenings and post-film programs for select films through January 21, and virtual screenings of most films continuing through January 31.

The 2024 Tucson J International Film Festival is multi-access, running from January 11 through January 31 for the Greater Tucson area. This year screenings will take place at various locations around Southern Arizona, including at the Tucson J, The Loft Cinema, AMC Foothills Mall (Auditorium 1) and University of Arizona Gallagher Theater.

Be sure to check the brochure for screening dates, times, and locations. All in-person post-film programs will be recorded and available for viewing after each event takes place. Please note that this year there are some films that are restricted to in-person viewing only, and all Eventive films may be viewed only by those watching in the Greater Tucson area.

The multi-access model provides a “Festival your-way” experience, showcasing 34 films including feature length films and shorts that explore the Jewish experience, past and present, across a variety of genres. The festival includes films from countries across the globe and in multiple languages.

In its 33rd year, the festival is one of the country’s longest-running Jewish film festivals, one of Arizona’s longest running film fests, and one of Tucson’s premier cultural events. Through a nearly yearlong screening process, the film festival committee, a dedicated group of Tucson J volunteers, selects the highest-quality films to share these magnificent stories with the Southern Arizona community.

Committee member, Audrey Brooks, shares, “I am excited that the Film Festival Committee has put together a stunning group of films representing many genres, points of view and thought-provoking opportunities for the community.”

While the film selection is distinctly Jewish, many of the messages and values presented resonate with people of all identities and offer relevant perspective. It is our hope that all members of the Southern Arizona community find the subject matter relatable, educational, and meaningful.

“Since October 7, the world has felt like a very dark place. Through the Tucson J Film Festival, we seek to bring some light to the darkness by amplifying the diverse story of global Jewish Peoplehood. The festival will highlight memorable moments from our history, inspire joy when thinking about a tradition and culture that has sustained Jewish life for thousands of years, and will hopefully bring together new and returning audience members to experience the power of film together. Whether you’re looking to learn something new, laugh or cry, or just be together in community, you won’t want to miss the 2024 festival” said Jennifer Selco, Senior Director of Jewish Living + Engagement at the Tucson J.
