Jewish Family & Children’s Services (JFCS) is commemorating its 85th year of delivering essential social services to individuals and families of all backgrounds with the gift of a large-scale mural to the Southern Arizona community.
The artwork by local muralist Pen Macias, painted on an exterior wall of the JFCS building on E. 5th Street, will anchor a year-long campaign to celebrate the agency’s proud heritage and its unwavering commitment to serving those in need well into the future. The mural’s key message, “A Community for All,” underscores the region’s multicultural and collaborative identity, the broad and diverse JFCS client base, and the agency’s ecosystem of support.
“Our 85th anniversary provides an opportunity to honor the courage of JFCS clients, our talented and committed staff, and the support of our granting organizations, donors, volunteers, partners and suppliers,” said Kseniya DeLano, President & CEO of JFCS. “Together we will continue to represent an effective, safe and inclusive resource for improving the quality of people’s lives throughout the region.”
JFCS will unveil the mural at a celebratory block party for the community on Nov. 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the muralist, the JFCS team, and representatives of partner agencies while enjoying live music, family activities and food vendors.
Since its founding as the Jewish Welfare Society in 1941, JFCS has provided specialized care through compassionate assistance and innovative programs benefiting children, families and adults of all ages who need it most.
Today’s JFCS touches thousands of lives each year by delivering behavioral health services, older adult services, divorce recovery support services, assistance for Holocaust survivors, abuse and neglect prevention services for families, financial wellness counseling, and additional services that support the wellbeing of a wide range of clients. In addition, the agency plays a vital role in the future of mental health care in Arizona as a training center for clinical therapists.
