Federation Super Extraordinary Sunday is on its way

The Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona is getting ready for its annual Campaign Super Sunday phone-a-thon and Mitzvah Day on Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Tucson Jewish Community Center.

From 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., volunteers can make calls soliciting tax-deductible gifts to the Federation that support Jewish life in Tucson, Israel and around the world; provide clerical support for the phone-a-thon; give blood to the Red Cross; or promote community-building in young children to teens.

“This is the second year Kris and I have done this,” says Ben Silverman, one of the co-chairs of the event along with his wife, Kris Silverman, and Nina and Andrew Isaac. “We just love the enthusiasm the Tucson Jewish community brings to the day. Last year we celebrated the University of Arizona. This year we’re celebrating the Super Bowl because it’s right here in Arizona.”

Participants of all ages are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team’s colors, adding to the team spirit of the day. Food and prizes will be available for volunteers who sign up for any of the two-and-a-half hour shifts. A Red Cross blood drive for individuals 17 and over will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. PJ Library will sponsor Youth Mitzvah Day for children 6 months to 8 years from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Mitzvah activities for children in grades 3 to 7, and B’nai Tzedek youth in grades 8 to 12, will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

To sign up to volunteer, contact Rosi or Jennifer at 577-9393 or campaign@jfsa.org, or visit www.jfsa.org. Making an online tax-deductible donation by Jan. 16 at www.jfsa.org will save volunteers from making unnecessary phone calls.
