Stand-up comic/economist to perform at UA

Yoram Bauman

Yoram Bauman, Ph.D., “the world’s first and only stand-up economist,” will present “Comedy, Economics and Climate Change” at the University of Arizona on Monday, Sept. 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Berger auditorium, 1130 E. Helen St.

“It turns out that comedy actually pays better than teaching,” Bauman told the AJP. While working on his Ph.D. at the University of Washington in Seattle, he wrote a parody of a Harvard professor’s popular economics text. In 2004, Bauman presented the parody at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, which happened to be in Seattle that year.

Bauman is the author of the two-volume “Cartoon Introduction to Economics.” He has appeared in Time magazine, on the PBS Newshour and NPR. His latest book is “The Cartoon Introduction to Climate Change,” illustrated by Grady Klein (Island Press, 2014). Book sales and signing will take place after the performance.
