Residents, youth to mix at Handmaker event

Handmaker Youth Leadership Team will hold a winter event on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. at Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging. The volunteer program is for youth ages 11 to 18 years, who interact with Handmaker residents at quarterly group events.

The program, which began in May 2012, combines hands-on community service with leadership training.

The winter program will include teaching residents how to set up an e-mail account, cooking with Executive Chef Mike Felde and playing board games. Participants are also working on a legacy project, interviewing residents to learn their life lessons and wisdom. The interviews will be collected in a keepsake book for families.

Annual membership for Handmaker Youth Leadership Team is $36, which includes all group events and a celebration and special t-shirt upon completion of the program.

The Rialto Theatre has donated a pair of tickets for the Jan. 30 “Acoustic Evening with Matisyahu” to Handmaker Youth Leadership Team. HYLT participants who bring friends to the Jan. 13 event will have their names placed in a drawing for the tickets, with one entry for each guest they bring.

For more information or to RSVP for the January event, contact Religious and Cultural Education Coordinator Lori Riegel at 322-7006 or lriegel@handmaker.org.
