Operation Elijah matches Seder hosts, guests

The Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona is partnering with local synagogues for Operation Elijah, an annual effort to ensure that every Jew in Southern Arizona has a seat at a Seder table for Passover.

Now in its seventh year, Operation Elijah will match Seder hosts and guests for the first night of Passover, Friday, April 6. If you are new to the community, single, a student, have no family in the area or are alone for any reason and are interested in attending a Seder in someone’s home, or if you are interested in welcoming someone into your home, contact Jane Scott at 577-9393 or

jscott@jfsa.org.

“This is a wonderful mitzvah to open your Seder to guests and we are very fortunate to have had many successful years with matching community members to wonderful hosts,” says Geri Tingley, Operation Elijah co-chair with Barbara Esmond. At the time of sign-up, the prospective host or attendee will be asked several questions to determine the needs of both parties. Transportation to and from the Seder is the responsibility of the guest.

JFSA’s Jewish Community Relations Council and Outreach Connections partner with Temple Emanu-El, Beth Shalom Temple Center (Green Valley) and Congregations Anshei Israel, Bet Shalom, Chaverim, Chofetz Chayim, Kol Simchah, M’kor Hayim, Or Chadash and Young Israel to present Operation Elijah.
