Carolynn Scherer Katz will present “Iran Update: a Jewish Perspective” at a Hadassah Southern Arizona lunch later this month.
Scherer Katz is a scientist and team leader of the nuclear nonproliferation and systems analysis team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She was instrumental in drafting Safeguards-by-Design documents for the Department of Energy, which were transferred to the International Atomic Energy Agency. Scherer Katz taught a political science course with a LANL post-doctorate staff in nuclear safeguards and security policy at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. She also presented several graduate-level lectures on nuclear fuel fabrication at the University of New Mexico.
Scherer Katz received a B.S. in ceramic engineering from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and an M.S. in ceramic science from Penn State University. She is a technical consultant to Hadassah and is an area vice president for Hadassah’s Desert-Mountain Region.
