STUART SHATKEN was elected president of the board of trustees of the JEWISH COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA. He has served as a JCF trustee since 2010. An attorney, he was vice president of a large real estate firm in New York for many years. In Tucson, he has co-chaired the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona’s Super Sunday fundraiser/mitzvah day, served on the Tucson Festival of Books steering committee and on the boards of Tucson Hebrew Academy and the Tucson Jewish Community Center. JCF board members Jane Ash and Andra Karnofsky are newly elected vice presidents. New board members are Myles Beck, Aaron Rottenstein and Linda Tumarkin.
NATHAN S. ROTHSCHILD, former law clerk to the Honorable Danelle Bennet Liwski, has joined the LAW OFFICES OF ROBERT G. LEWIS, P.C., and will practice in the areas of family law and personal injury.
PEPPER VINER HOMES has named JOE RUSSELL general project manager, overseeing construction at all of its new home communities. Russell’s family has been building homes in Tucson since 1948 and Russell, a Tucson native, has learned all aspects of home building, working as a crew foreman in metal framing for six years before joining Pepper Viner in 2004 as an assistant project manager.
ALEXIS VAN POOL has been named library coordinator at the TUCSON ASSOCIATION OF JEWISH LIBRARIES. She is a master’s student in library science at the University of Arizona. Beginning June 25, summer hours for the library branch at the Tucson Jewish Community Center, staffed by Van Pool, will be Wednesdays 8 a.m-1 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
NORMAN RUBIN was given the title of Reverend at CONGREGATION BET SHALOM’s Shabbat service May 17. Cantor Avraham Alpert presented Rubin with a framed certificate. The Bet Shalom board voted unanimously to bestow this honor, recognizing Rubin’s many years of service. Rubin is a past president of Bet Shalom and has served as ritual chair.
