Zachary Solomon Orman, 28, died in a paragliding accident at the Los Cienagas National Conservation Area near Sonoita, Ariz., on April 7, 2013.
Born in Merced, Calif., and raised in Murphys, Calif. Mr. Orman graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a degree in neurobiology. He then spent three years working for Yosemite Search and Rescue and with the ski patrol around Lake Tahoe. Mr. Orman was in his third year at the University of Arizona College of Medicine — from which his father graduated — and had achieved honors in all rotations. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the AOA Gold Award for Humanism.
Survivors include his parents, Rodger and Holly Orman of Murphys, Calif.; sister, Emily; girlfriend, Rebecca Dennis; and grandparents, Bernie and Betty Orman and Marvin and Dinah Taub, all of Tucson.
A memorial service was held at Temple Emanu-El with Rabbi Samuel M. Cohon officiating. Arrangements were made by Evergreen Mortuary.
