Ronald Janoff

obit-janoffRonald C. Janoff, 85, died June 4, 2013.

Born in New York City, Mr. Janoff served in the United States Merchant Marine in World War II and in the U.S. Coast Guard. He graduated from New York University with a bachelor’s degree in 1948. Mr. Janoff was a real estate and mortgage broker and developer in New York and in Tucson since 1963. He focused on commercial properties and developing new housing projects, including early university apartment complexes and land acquisitions with actor Michael Landon. He was active in the early development of the local motion picture business at Old Tucson, with the Tucson Film Commission and multiplex movie theaters. More recently, he worked with his wife, Kola, in her firm, Kola’s LLC. His many contributions to civic and charitable organizations include the Tucson Human Relations Commission, as a founder and past president of the Tucson Classics and as founder with Kola, of the Michael Landon Children’s Cancer Fund. He was a long-time member of both the Rotary Club of Tucson and Mensa.

Survivors include his wife, Kola; children, Patrice (Ron) Brown of Tucson, and Dr. Edward (Dr. Nancy Krywonis) Janoff of Denver; ex-wife, Barbara Kaplan of Boca Raton, Fla.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Private services were held. Arrangements were made by Angel Valley Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael Landon Children’s Cancer Fund at the University of Arizona Cancer Research Center or to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson.
