ot-Gila SilvermanGILA SILVERMAN won a first place award from the Arizona Press Club for non-metro social issues reporting for her article in the Dec. 28, 2012 edition of the ARIZONA JEWISH POST, “Be kind: Ben’s Bells replace dreidel for Winterhaven Festival of Lights.”  The judge wrote, “This easily could have been just another ho-hum ‘guess what’s happening in our neighborhood’ brief, but the author’s writing and unique storytelling elevated this tale of an art project that has become a community statement. Beautiful message and writing.”

1ST RATE 2ND HAND THRIFT STORE has implemented a new system that allows people to earmark donations to be credited to the Jewish organization of their choice. The store continues to give credit to Jewish organizations for volunteer hours. The store has given more than $100,000 back to Jewish community nonprofits since it opened in late 2007.
