Since 1970, Jewish Family & Children’s Services has helped local families celebrate a traditional Seder through its annual Matza & More Passover project. JFCS is joined by local synagogues and businesses that help collect and deliver a variety of food items to more than 300 individuals in need.
Participating synagogues include Congregations Anshei Israel, Bet Shalom, Chaverim, Chofetz Chayim, Kol Simchah, M’kor Hayim, Or Chadash and Young Israel; Chabad on River, Eshel Avraham and Temple Emanu-El. Together with the Northwest Division of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona and Tucson Hebrew Academy, they provide boxes of matzah, matzah ball soup mix, walnuts, grape juice, horseradish, gefilte fish and Shabbat candles for the food baskets. Each organization collects specific items that will be brought to JFCS on March 29. Each basket will also contain fresh produce. The food will be packed by volunteers and delivered or picked up at JFCS on April 1 in time for the first Seder on April 6.
Financial donations, which offset the cost of purchasing basket items not collected by community agencies and synagogues, may be sent to JFCS, 4301 E. 5th Street Tucson, AZ 85711, c/o Carol Sack, vice president of resource development. For more information, call 795-0300 or visit jfcstucson.com.
