Jewish History Museum nonprofit status A-OK

We have received a few calls and e-mails inquiring as to the nonprofit status of the Jewish History Museum based on an article in the Arizona Daily Star on Sunday, June 19, 2011.

The article directed the reader to a list of Arizona nonprofits that were being declassified by the IRS. The Jewish Historical Society of Southern Arizona (JHSSA) was on the list as a non-compliant entity. That was an accurate identification, however, the list failed to point out that the JHSSA also ceased to exist after 2007. It had become part of the entity which eventually became the Jewish History Museum and the JHSSA was declassified as a nonprofit at that time. The noted declassification of the JHSSA is an administrative procedure by the IRS to clear the old nonprofit (JHSSA) from their records.

The Jewish History Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in good standing with the IRS and is not affected by the “declassification” of the JHSSA.
