Super Sunday Returns: JPSA Event Raises Double its Goal for Annual Campaign

On Sunday, March 26, Jewish Philanthropies of Southern Arizona (JPSA) reintroduced Super Sunday, the largest annual, one-day fundraising event for the organization.

The event, shuttered in 2020 due to the COVID outbreak, returned this year and raised nearly double its goal of $60,000. A total of $118,785 will be directed to JPSA’s Annual Campaign which supports the Jewish and broader communities in Southern Arizona and throughout the world.

“I want to thank all of our amazing volunteers and hard-working staff, and especially Super Sunday Co-Chairs Andy and Linda Kunsberg for helping to bring back this amazing event,” said Emily Richman, JPSA Interim CEO. “The generosity of our wonderful donors will make a tremendous impact in our community.”

The event, billed as Super Sunday: March Mitzvah Madness, kicked off at 10 a.m. in the Shaol and Evelyn Pozez Event Room at JPSA. Dozens of volunteers and JPSA staff made phone calls and solicited donors throughout the community.

Super Sunday featured several in-house contests to encourage volunteer engagement. Various local businesses helped sponsor the event and provided items for an in-house raffle for volunteers.

Tucson Hebrew Academy (THA) received a $1,000 grant from JPSA as the organization that provided the most volunteers.

In addition to the fundraising, the Vitalant Blood Mobile was on-site for a blood drive during the event as well. In total, 16 pints of blood were collected to help replenish Southern Arizona’s dangerously low blood supply.

Richman believes the return of Super Sunday was an overwhelming success. “I couldn’t be more pleased with Super Sunday’s results. It’s further proof of how remarkable and generous this community is. I’m already looking forward to Super Sunday 2024!”
