Phyllis Salmon passed away March 25, 2022, just short of her 94th birthday. A dedicated wife and mother, Phyllis was preceded in death by Norman, her loving husband of 66 years, and survived by daughters Chelley Salmon and Gayle Salmon Gayle. Due to Covid, no public service was held.
Phyllis was born and raised in New York, where she met Norman at a Jewish Community Center dance while visiting her cousin in Staten Island. They later married and spent their honeymoon driving cross country to Tucson in 1950.
A student at the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising (later known as LIM College), Phyllis always loved fashion, and never lost her individual sense of style. She was known for her unique and somewhat flamboyant eyeglasses. Her passion for fashion crossed over into her volunteer work where she particularly enjoyed organizing fundraising fashion shows.
Phyllis contributed much to her community as a lifelong volunteer in Tucson’s arts community, as well as Arizona Cancer Center, Assistance League, Angel Charity, and various other organizations. She received an award for extraordinary public service from the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona in 1970.
Phyllis and Norman shared an enduring love for Classical Music and were both actively involved with Tucson Symphony Orchestra and Arizona Friends of Chamber Music for many years.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to support the music Phyllis and Norman felt most passionately about:
