Award Winning Care at Handmaker

This spring, Handmaker learned that they had received two Arizona Daily Star’s Reader’s Choice awards for 2021; one for Best Skilled Nursing/Rehab Facility and one for Best Continuing Care Retirement Community.

As the community outreach coordinator at Handmaker for nearly seven years, this does not surprise me. My office is down the hall from the Rehab Gym, and I overhear and see what they do every day. The therapists are kind, patient, knowledgeable, and I can see the results of everyone’s hard work.

Nevertheless, it is nice to be recognized as the Reader’s Choice by the community, and by residents. Here is what some current residents and recent graduates of Handmaker’s Rehab said about their experiences at Handmaker:

Pam (Post Hospital Rehab after Bike Accident) – “All the staff here have been wonderful and helpful…I have received so much love from all the healthcare staff who have taken such good care of me.”

Abel (Handmaker [AL] Resident after Post Hospital Rehab) – “I would recommend Handmaker. The therapists really got me moving, and the nursing staff was very caring. But I was happy when I could go back to my Handmaker Apartment and continue my therapy.”

Roslyn (AL Resident – Restorative Therapy for Maintenance)– “I think that the therapy has really been helping my back. And they gave me some exercises to do on my own.”

Ila (AL Resident now in Post Hospital Rehab) – “When I first came to Rehab I could not even walk 6 steps. Now I can walk 200 feet, all due to Rehab. OT and PT worked a lot with me. They have been terrific. All the staff here have been really, really good. It has made such a difference to me.”

And we have many happy Long Term Care Residents too! Here are just a few…

Marylynn (Rich Long Term Care Skilled Nursing) – “I love it here. I looked at other places before I came to Handmaker and when I walked in, I knew this is where I wanted to live. I feel safe and well taken care of here.”

Marcie (Tynan Assisted Living) – “I am so grateful to be in a Kosher place. And everyone has been so wonderful. They take such good care of me!”

Doris (Rubin Assisted Living) – “We have such dedicated and hardworking staff here. They are doing a tremendous job. Beautiful people. They took such good care of us during COVID, getting us vaccinated and keeping us safe. I feel blessed that I came here. I also love all the beautiful yards and greenery here, and try to attend all of the classes that I can.”

Kim (Besserman Independent Living) – “Handmaker is warm and caring, and I like the support that I get from being here. I also like all the exercise classes, especially chair yoga.”

Our community is fortunate to have Handmaker, the only Kosher facility in town, providing excellent care for the seniors in our community since 1963. Handmaker maintains a strong connection to the Jewish Community, is still a non-profit facility, and continues to provide top quality care to those who need it in Independent and Assisted Living, Post Hospital Rehab, Long-Term Care Skilled Nursing and Memory Care.

Handmaker was excited to learn that they are in the top 10 for the 2022 Arizona Daily Star Reader’s Choice Awards for Best Skilled Nursing/Rehab Facility, Best Continuing Care Retirement Community, and Best Assisted Living Facility. You can show your support for Handmaker by voting for them at Vote for Handmaker as AZ Daly Star Readers Choice under Healthcare between July 17-31.
