A Conversation for the New Year: Tucson J Welcomes Speechwriter and Author Sarah Hurwitz to Campus

Along with the sweetness of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, there comes the opportunity for reflection and renewal. In the spirit of the season, the Tucson J is elated to welcome renowned political speechwriter and author Sarah Hurwitz to campus for two community events Sunday, September 18. Sarah’s book, Here All Along: Finding Meaning, Spirituality, and a Deeper Connection to Life–in Judaism (After Finally Choosing to Look There), was a finalist for two National Jewish Book Awards and for the Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature.

From 6:30-8 pm in the J’s beautifully landscaped and newly-lit Sculpture Garden, community members are invited to join the author in conversation with Tucson J President + CEO, Todd Rockoff, about her journey to discover deeper meaning in Judaism, and the importance of our individual and collective journeys. As Sarah shares her experience of rediscovering Judaism for herself, our community will have the opportunity to reflect on our individual Jewish journeys, to renew our commitment to living a life of purpose, and to consider how Jewish ritual and learning might add new meaning to our lives in the coming year. A book signing will follow the conversation; a limited number of books will be available for purchase.

In partnership with PJ Library of Southern Arizona and PJ Our Way, a morning meet-and-greet session especially for parents of children and youth will be held from 10-11:15 am (with optional childcare). Drawing from her book and experience as a successful speechwriter for Hilary Clinton, and Barack and Michelle Obama, and as a senior advisor to the White House Council on Women and Girls, Sarah will share how parents can foster their own meaningful connection to Judaism while they are busy trying to balance family and work life.

As the Tucson J continues working to animate its engagement strategy through innovative, meaningful, and educational Jewish programming for people of all ages and at all junctures on their Jewish journeys, it is an honor to bring Sarah Hurwitz to Tucson. Both engagements are made possible with support from a generous donor.
