Carol Stern, Tucson community leader and Israel advocate, dies

Carol Stern passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021. She and her husband, Al, of blessed memory, provided invaluable leadership to the Tucson Jewish community for decades, serving as moving forces behind the establishment of our vital institutions.

Among her other key contributions, Carol was instrumental in creating Women’s Division locally and nationally, served as a representative of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), sat on the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona Board of Directors for more than twenty years, becoming a Life Member, and was an influential mentor and inspiration to two generations of other Tucsonan leaders. She was known for her profound love of the state of Israel.

Carol is survived by three children, Ellen, Stephen, and Lora, and predeceased by her daughter, Beth, and husband, Al.

A graveside funeral for family and close friends took place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 19 and was livestreamed for community members.
