Policeman, 2 gunmen killed in shootout at Jersey City kosher supermarket

(JTA) — A police officer and two gunmen are dead in the aftermath of an hourlong shootout Tuesday afternoon at a kosher supermarket in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The gunmen, described as young juveniles, had holed up in the JC Kosher Supermarket after shooting a police officer in the shoulder at nearby Bay View Cemetery.

Along with the policeman killed, two other officers were injured in the incident, the Hudson County prosecutor told reporters. At least one victim from the market was being treated and talking to police, WABC-TV reported.

In addition to the shooters who were killed, a third gunman was believed to be at large, Fox News reported.

A dozen public schools in the area were put on lockdown as the situation unfolded.

Jersey City is located just west of New York City across the Hudson River.
