BERTÍ S. BRODSKY has joined the Arizona Jewish Post as account executive. She has 10 years of sales experience for various media including the Tucson Weekly, Cloud 95 radio, TCI/Tucson Cable Advertising and the Savvy Shopper. A graduate of Catalina High School, she earned her associate’s degree from Pima Community College and a bachelor of science from the University of Arizona. Married with two grown daughters, she returned to Tucson last year after 18 years in the Pacific Northwest, where she worked in the real estate industry as a lender, realtor and insurance agent.
ELI BAREL is the new owner of ELI’S DELI at 5071 E. 5th St., formerly the 5th Street Deli. Barel, the husband of Weintraub Israel Center Director Oshrat Barel, has added Israeli touches to the deli’s kosher menu.
JOSÉ LUIS GOMEZ has been named music director of the TUCSON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA after a two-year search. Gomez made his debut here in October 2014. The Venezuelan-born, Spanish conductor won first prize in the International Sir Georg Solti Conductors Competition in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2010, which earned him the position of assistant conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. His recent symphonic highlights included the Royal Liverpool and Rochester Philharmonics; the Colorado, Vancouver, Edmonton, Pasadena, New Zealand and National Taiwan Symphony Orchestras; and Carnegie Hall and Moscow State Conservatory debuts.
JAN LEVKOWITZ COURTNEY has joined the staff at the University of Arizona Campus Health Services as the coordinator of eating disorder services in the counseling and psych services department. She also serves as the hospitality co-chair on the board of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
