Tucson Hebrew Academy will honor Lex Sears, a former THA trustee, at its annual Tikkun Olam Award dinner on Sunday, Nov. 1.
“It is with deep gratitude that we recognize Lex Sears this year with the Tikkun Olam Award for the incredible work he’s done for THA and the community,” says Jon Ben-Asher, head of school.
Sears was born in Vancouver, Canada, and moved to Tucson in 1970. He has been active in the United Way and chaired or served on the boards of many organizations in the greater Tucson community and in the Jewish community, including the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona (which named him its Man of the Year in 2013) and the Tucson Jewish Community Center.
As the strategic planning chair for THA, Sears’ vision led the board to embark on a strategic branding process to better reflect what the school is today and where it is headed in the future.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Back by popular demand, comedian, author and Jewish day school graduate Joel Chasnoff will entertain and serve as emcee. Chasnoff was the warm-up act for Jon Stewart of The Daily Show and is currently writing a pilot for Comedy Central. He has performed his comedy act in eight countries, including nine shows for Birthright Israel in Jerusalem and a U.S.O. Comedy Tour of Japan and Korea, entertaining American Marines.
“Chasnoff had us in stitches last year with his Jewish jabs. From one Jew to another, his comic gift really hits the kishkes in the best way!” says Ben-Asher. The Tikkun Olam dinner will also feature a cocktail reception and silent auction.
Tickets are $150 per person or $250 per couple. Contact Julee Dawson at jdawson@thaaz.org or 529-3888.
