“A World After This” will be the focus of the Women’s Academy of Jewish Studies eighth annual High Holy Days season book brunch with Esther Becker on Sunday, Sept. 20 at Congregation Chofetz Chayim.
A memoir by Holocaust survivor Lola Lieber, “A World After This” spans 91 years, moving from Hungary to Brooklyn, N.Y. The title is taken from Lieber’s husband, Mechel, who reassured her during weeks of starvation and periods of imprisonment that “there will be a world after this.”
“Lieber showed faith and courage against all odds, even personally confronting Adolf Eichmann. She eventually immigrated to the United States, becoming a great-grandmother and an accomplished painter. Her paintings are held in private collections and in the Yad Vashem archives in Jerusalem,” says Becker.
The brunch will begin with registration at 10:45 a.m. Copies of the book are available directly from Becker. The cost for the book and brunch is $25. To RSVP, call Becker at 591-7680.
