About 500 people attended the Israel 66 Celebration held Wednesday evening, May 14, at the Tucson Jewish Community Center. Coordinated by the Weintraub Israel Center, which is a joint program of the JCC and the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona, the event included children’s activities, Israeli food, community exhibitors, a 12 torches ceremony, an address by Deputy Consul General of Israel Uri Resnick, Ph.D., and a performance by Israeli singer Lior Balavi. Children received passport stickers at activity stations representing Israel sites, such as building a marshmallow snowman on Mt. Hermon, digging for archaeological treasures in the sand at Beit She’an, climbing the bounce house slide at Masada, and having their photos taken at Ben Gurion Airport.
