Margie Fenton award
Some 200 people gathered on Sunday, Jan. 5 at Mercado San Agustin for the annual meeting of the Jewish Community Relations Council and to celebrate 10 years of the Jewish Latino Teen Coalition, a program of the JCRC and the Office of Congressman Raul Grijalva. Eileen Warshaw, executive director of the Jewish History Museum (right), received the Margie Fenton Award from Linda Tumarkin, past JCRC chair (center) and Janet Seltzer, co-chair of the Margie Fenton Award committee and past JCRC chair. Named for a past JCRC director who continues to be active in the community, the award “recognizes an individual or group who has made a significant impact on our community with sensitivity, vision, creativity, and caring, and has brought diverse people together by building bridges and strengthening relationships.” The plaque was designed by Tucson artist Julie Szerina Stein.
Beer, Bourbon and Blackjack
Congregation Bet Shalom hosted about 50 members and nonmembers on Saturday, Dec. 7 for a “Bourbon, Beer and Blackjack” party. Noshes and live and silent auctions rounded out the evening. Proceeds from the event will help fund the congregation’s religious school and outreach programs.
