Yom Hazikaron event to honor fallen soldiers

The Tucson Jewish community and friends will come together to commemorate Israel’s Memorial Day, Yom Hazikaron, on Sunday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tucson Jewish Community Center.

“Yom Hazikaron is the day for us to respect those who gave their lives for the security of Israel and is the deepest and most significant expression of our connection and commitment to Israel,” says Guy Gelbart, director of the Weintraub Israel Center and community shaliach (Israeli emissary).

This year’s event will be led by Hebrew High students who engaged in a unique educational program about Yom Hazikaron and Israel, he adds. The commemoration will feature two dance groups, “Anonymous Dancers” and the JCC Israeli Dance Group, with performances specially choreographed for the event, as well as the Tucson Hebrew Academy choir. Rabbi Yehuda Ceitlin will lead the Kaddish, Rabbi Samuel M. Cohon will lead the El Male Rachamim, Rabbi Ben Herman will conduct the Yizkor service and Rabbi Billy Lewkowicz will lead the prayer for the safety of Israel.
