Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging will host Rabbi Shalom Hammer, who will speak on “Finding Inner Peace,” on Friday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. The presentation will include a video about Alice Herz-Sommer, the oldest living Holocaust survivor.
Hammer will explore Jewish perspectives on maintaining a positive emotional outlook during difficult times, noting that a positive outlook has been an impetus for Jewish survival historically. He will also discuss how personal tranquility can help to perpetuate the Jewish people.
A former chaplain in the Israeli Defense Forces, Hammer has been a Jewish educator in the United States and the former Soviet Union, and currently teaches at Yeshivat Hesder Kiryat Gat in Israel.
