Congregation Anshei Israel’s cantorial soloist Nichole Chorny is forming two new choirs: one for adults and another for children.
An interest meeting for the adult choir will be held Sunday, Oct. 14, 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the synagogue’s sanctuary. Open to all adults, the choir’s repertoire will include a full spectrum of Jewish music, both liturgical and secular.
An interest meeting for the youth choir will be held Monday, Oct. 15, 6-7 p.m. in the synagogue’s sanctuary. Open to all children in third through 12th grades, the choir’s repertoire will include a wide variety of Jewish music. Participants will be given performance opportunities throughout the year for the community and their peers. A parent or guardian must be present for the youth choir interest meeting, but will not be required to stay for future rehearsals.
Chorny is the cantorial soloist for CAI Shabbat morning services. In addition, she teaches B’nai Mitzvah class and is the tefillah (prayer) teacher in CAI’s religious school. A graduate of the University of Arizona with a B.M. in music education, she has taught general music and choir to children K-12.
“I love singing and teaching,” says Chorny. “Sharing my passions with others is a pleasure, and the members of the choirs will soon get to share their voices and love of music with others as well.”
