Winery award shows it’s a small world

We were so pleased to read about the Golan Heights Winery award in Italy and particularly about Victor Schoenfeld (News Briefs — AJP, 4/22/11). We have been friends with the Schoenfeld family for many years as we all belonged to Congregation Ner Tamid in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. The youth group of this congregation has had an association for many years with Congregation Anshei Israel.

We were at the Seder at my son’s house in Carlsbad, Calif., and had been sharing the Yarden wine and reminiscing about Victor and his role with the Golan Winery.

It is also strange that in the same issue Diane Weintraub was picked as the Woman of the Year (“JFSA to honor local ‘gems’”). The Weintraubs’ daughter who died recently from cancer was married to Victor Schoenfeld’s brother, Dan. They all live in Israel. It is truly a small world.
