New UA Hillel center set for dedication, tours

The University of Arizona Hillel Foundation will formally dedicate the Meyer Agron Center for Jewish Life on the Harvey & Deanna Evenchik Campus at the University of Arizona on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3:30 p.m. A capital campaign that began in the fall of 2010 raised funds to renovate the building at 1245 E. 2nd Street, which has served students since 1984. The dedication includes a mezuzah hanging ceremony.

The renovations, completed in August, include new lounges, a hi-speed wireless computer center and expanded space for the Oy Vey Café. A new wing includes multipurpose rooms with hi-tech classroom equipment as well as objects needed to conduct religious services. Rooms may be rented for special events.

Tours will kick off the festivities, followed by speakers at 4:30 p.m., including Deanna Evenchik; J. Edward Wright, director of the Arizona Center for Judaic Studies; Tim Cohen, vice president of development, Schusterman International Center; Herb Tobin, consultant to the project; Gary Kippur, UA Hillel capital campaign chair; Michelle Blumenberg, UA Hillel executive director; and students.

While the building is complete, the capital campaign continues and naming opportunities are available. Contact Michelle Blumenberg at mblumenb@email.arizona.edu or 624-6561.
