Handmaker dinner will celebrate Lightman

Philanthropist Steven Lightman will be honored at the Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging annual dinner on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. at Loews Ventana Canyon. The event will feature “Encore: A Salute to Musical Theatre” by performers from the University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film and Television. Mel Cohen, the Handmaker board president, will also receive special recognition during the evening.

Lightman began his career in the direct marketing industry more than 25 years ago. He joined Arizona Mail Order in 1982, and has held top positions in national companies such as The Sharper Image, Crosstown Traders and Orchard Brands.

In 2008, Lightman signed the Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona’s Endowment Book of Life, establishing the Steven A. Lightman Foundation, and assuring that his three children will become philanthropists in the Jewish community. He serves on the foundation’s executive committee and is past president of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona. Lightman serves on the board of Norwest Bank Arizona, Telexis Inc., the Parcel Shippers Association and the Better Business Bureau, and is a member of numerous committees.
