
SHARON MEGDAL, director of the Water Resources Research Center at the University of Arizona, attended the third biannual Drylands, Deserts, & Desertification Conference earlier this month at the Sede Boqer Campus of the Ben-Gurion University, where she gave three lectures. A plenary lecture covered “Restoration Success Stories from Arizona.” At a workshop focused on the Dead Sea and saline lake restoration, she spoke about “The Case of the Imperial Irrigation District Water Transfer and the Salton Sea.” And in a session on water policy and management, she presented her research on “Quantifying and Funding Water for the Environment: How Researchers Assist Practitioners.” She also visited Jerusalem, where she toured the City of David’s Hezekiah Water Tunnels, and met with officials at the Israeli Water Authority in Tel Aviv.
