THA Names Brian Alterowitz as Director of Operations

Brian Alterowitz

Tucson Hebrew Academy recently hired Brian Alterowitz as director of operations. Alterowitz is a dedicated and highly skilled organizer with a deep-rooted passion for community, education, and public service. With over 25 years of distinguished service in the United States Army, he retired at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4, having built an accomplished career focused on intelligence, security, and operations management. His work demanded not only technical precision and strategic thinking, but also the ability to lead teams, solve complex problems, and build effective systems under pressure.

Throughout his military service, Alterowitz’s assignments took him across the globe. He deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, where he supported critical missions and contributed to national security efforts. Beyond combat zones, his expertise was also called upon in diplomatic contexts — he held key roles at U.S. missions in Mozambique, Panama, and Taiwan. In every location, he gained a deeper understanding of cross-cultural collaboration, international service, and the importance of community building — principles that continue to guide his work today.

Despite his global travels, Tucson has remained a meaningful and beloved place for Alterowitz and his family. He and his wife, Kristina, first lived in Tucson early in his Army career and have cherished memories of their time here. Their son, Michael, was born at Tucson Medical Center, and Alterowitz returned to the city multiple times for advanced training throughout his career. For the Alterowitz family, Tucson has always felt like home, and they are thrilled to be putting down roots once again in a community they’ve long hoped to return to.

As director of operations at THA, Alterowitz brings not only his logistical and leadership expertise, but also a heartfelt commitment to education and service. He is deeply invested in creating safe, efficient, and welcoming environments where students can thrive, educators can do their best work, and families can feel supported. His role allows him to merge his strategic background with his core values, ensuring that behind-the-scenes systems are running smoothly so that the focus can remain where it belongs: on teaching, learning, and building strong relationships.

Alterowitz is honored to contribute to THA’s mission and is enthusiastic about playing a role in the school’s continued growth and success. For him, this work is more than a job — it’s an opportunity to serve a cause he cares deeply about in a community he is proud to call home.
