Shaping Israel and the Jewish World After October 7

“Israel is forever changed after the attacks on October 7, 2023. What does the future hold for Israel and the Jewish people throughout the world?” asks Rabbi Sara Metz of Congregation Anshei Israel.

Join Vice Chairman of the World Zionist Organization Dr. Yizhar Hess to discuss the roles American Jews can play in shaping Israel’s “Day After” – the Jewish state that will emerge after October 7. He will be speaking on Tuesday, March 18, 7:30 pm, at Congregation Anshei Israel.

Dr. Hess served as the Jewish Agency’s shaliach in Tucson from 2000-2003. After returning to Israel, he worked for the Jewish Agency as director of partnerships between Jewish communities abroad and in Israel. He became CEO of the Masorti movement in Israel in 2007, until he assumed the role of WZO vice chairman in 2020.

“As American Jews, we must stand firmly in support of Israel’s right to exist and defend itself,” says Rabbi Metz. “In addition,” she says, “there are vital roles that we can and must do, to help reshape our homeland in the days, weeks, months, and yes, years, to come.”

One way you can make a difference is by voting in the World Zionist Congress elections, from March 10 – May 4. The WZC is the only democratic body with representatives of all of world Jewry: all countries, all streams. Diaspora Jews not only have a voice, but a vote. The Congress shapes the leadership, activity, and spending of the Jewish Agency, JNF, United Israel Appeal, and roughly $2 billion. This is an important opportunity for each of us to let our voices be heard, to preserve and fund all forms of Judaism throughout the world. There is no charge to attend the discussion with Dr. Hess. For security purposes, RSVP is required. Registration is available here or by calling Congregation Anshei Israel at (520) 745-5550.
