Of Blessed Memory: Johanna Stein

Johanna B. Stein (born April 26, 1938) beauty queen, Pima County Maid of Cotton, University of Arizona Registration Kitten and dark cloud to all of Daddy’s silver linings struck her last pose July 5, 2024.  A beautiful and virtuous woman, what she lacked in patience she made up for in prudence and fortitude.  A University of Arizona graduate, she was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and worked in the profession for many years.

Predeceased by her husband, Cactus Dick Stein, she is survived by her brothers Lester and Stewart Birnam, her four children: Julie Stein, Tony Stein (Christy) Amy Stein (Howie Usher) and Nancy Laughlin (Fran), her granddaughters Ariela Edelman and Ilana Edelman (Adam Strong), and little Vinnie. All four of her children are grateful she saw them to adulthood and with all their fingers and toes.

The family appreciate all of the care providers who attended to and cared for Johanna these past six years.  We are especially thankful to Milton Spivak NP, the remarkable team at Via Elegante and Heartland Hospice. Their love and appreciation for her witty and vivacious personality were a blessing.

Per her request, no services nor celebrations will be held. If you wish to make a donation in Johanna’s memory, the family encourages you to consider the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum.
