Of Blessed Memory: Shelby Silverman

Shelby David Silverman (Shel), שלמה דוד בן חיה ומשה אהרן 77, of Tucson, AZ passed away on June 9, 2023, the 20th of Sivan 5783.

Funeral service is at the Evergreen chapel, followed by burial on Sunday, June 11, at 10am, officiated by Rabbi Ruven Barkan and Cantorial Soloist Nichole Chorney of Anshei Israel.

Shelby was born in Texarkana, Texas to Ida and Morris Silverman on November 2, 1945. He graduated from Tucson High in 1963 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Arizona before serving in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Shelby owned and operated Tucson Auto Sales and Affordable Auto Rental. He enjoyed photography, genealogy, woodwork, meeting new friends and speaking with old ones. He was an active member of Anshei Israel, B’nai Brith, Hillel and a supporter of Jewish Philanthropies of Southern Arizona and an original signer of the Endowment Book of Life.

Shelby was the beloved husband of Linda, father of Lisa (Josh), Josh, Ranit (Mez); Saba of Talia, Jonah, Ruth, Yael and Ariya; brother of Mel; and also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Morris Silverman, z״l.

Memorial donations may be made to Congregation Anshei Israel, Jewish Family and Children Services, Tucson Jewish Community Center or Tucson Hebrew Academy.
