Melanie Pozez, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, philanthropist, activist and friend died May 27, 2023 at her home in Los Angeles. Melanie was born August 4, 1950, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Shaol and Evie Pozez.
A veritable Jewish Francis of Assisi, Melanie rescued thousands of animals from peril and neglect. Much of her time was spent in political causes where she passionately championed the rights of the disadvantaged including the homeless. A friend to all whom she met, Melanie amplified our sense of what it is to be human. She operated with a rare compassion and dignity: kindness and generosity were the organizing principles of her world; family and friends kept her world turning. Throughout her life she was a proud supporter of Israel.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jay by almost a year to the day.
She is survived by her sons Shawn and Jason Blumberg, her daughters-in-law Lauren George and Sara Sanchez, her grandchildren Maxwell and Sidney Blumberg, Arlo and Alma Blumberg-Sanchez. She is also survived by her loving siblings Bill Pozez, Shelley Pozez and Robin and Mitch Pozez.
Her family and friends are devastated by this great light going out.
A memorial and shiva took place in Los Angeles.
Instead of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the following organizations: Shelter Hope (Dedicated to Connecting Pets and People) and PATH (People Assisting the Homeless).
