Tucson Hebrew Academy (THA) is committed to the Jewish value of Gemilut Chasadim (acts of loving kindness). Every week, they recognize their student’s mitzvot (acts of kindness) by giving out the Honorable Menschen Awards at a school-wide gathering called Oneg Shabbat. It is there that two students from lower school and one student from middle school are nominated by staff and faculty for going above and beyond to serve their peers. However, in November, at THA’s Thanksgiving Feast, the 7th and 8th graders focused on gratitude and decided to give out Honorable Menschen Awards to some very special friends of THA. All in attendance were delighted to wish a hearty Mazel Tov to these surprise Mensches!
The first Honorable Menschen was awarded to the THA Board for giving of their time, expertise, and resources to make sure that students have the best Jewish Day School in Southern Arizona! Thank you so much, Board Members!
Next, Jewish Family and Children’s Services was awarded an Honorable Menschen for staffing Tucson Hebrew Academy with their beloved counselor, Ms. Christie, and for giving faculty and staff mental health support.
Then, Jewish Philanthropies of Southern Arizona were given a very enthusiastic Honorable Menschen for their gracious financial and community support, helping to make THA a very special place!
And finally, Tucson Jewish Community Center was awarded an Honorable Menschen for their unfailing partnership with THA on everything from being a home court for indoor athletics to maintenance and community programs!
It is often said that if one wants to learn, teach. What a joy to watch THA students become teachers by passing on their appreciation for and recognition of Gemilut Chasadim. This month, may we follow their examples and honor the very special mensches in our own lives!
