An incredible evening of music, family, and community will take place at the Fox Tucson Theatre on Sunday, October 23rd at 4 pm. Featuring four generations of the talented Ronstadt family and a special welcome by Linda Ronstadt, “The Ronstadt Family in Concert” will benefit Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Southern Arizona (JFCS). “We are so delighted to join the Ronstadt family to celebrate the rich history that their family and our organization have in Southern Arizona.” said Ken Goodman, Board Chair, JFCS of Southern Arizona.
Speaking for the family, Bobby Ronstadt is thrilled that they are all coming together for this very special concert. “We have been trying to put this celebration of our music together for nearly a decade. Everything has finally aligned for us to create a magical, historic evening of music and memories for family and friends. We have exactly the right place – the beautiful, historic Fox Theater, exactly the right time -we found a date where all six Ronstadt groups can come together, and a perfect reason – raising awareness and funds for JFCS to provide critical support and assistance to families from all backgrounds across southern Arizona. We hope everyone will join us”.
The Ronstadt Family’s musical legacy is legendary in southern Arizona and around the world — some may even use the word dynasty to describe the generations of musical artists from this family, beginning with Federico José María Ronstadt who arrived in Tucson in 1882 to a western frontier territory on the verge of statehood. He brought with him a love of music that has endured through the family to this very day. The old songs from Sonora are part of the family heritage, as generations of Ronstadts continue the family tradition, putting polished harmonies to a wonderful mixture of folk and popular songs, Mexican and American, old and new.
“The Ronstadt Family in Concert” includes a video welcome from Linda Ronstadt. Five family groups will perform throughout the evening showcasing the music that is the heart and soul of the Ronstadt family. They will all come together at the end for one big sing-along finale.
Featured Artists/Acts for “The Ronstadt Family in Concert”
Kiko Jacome
The Kiko Jácome Trio, featuring Kiko, Jeffrey Sandburg and Ernie Mendoza, perform a mix of original and classic tunes referred to as Desert Rock and Soul, a mixture of rock, blues, and folk with a Southwestern flair. Kiko, another branch on the Ronstadt tree, writes original songs that delve into almost every heartfelt emotion imaginable: longing, desire, betrayal, joy, and loss – it’s all there. Every tune is a little gemstone with something special to offer.
Mindy Ronstadt Gordon
Mindy Ronstadt is accompanied by Bill Martin, also known as her “One-Bill Band.” These days, when she’s not singing with Bill, she can be found all around Arizona singing with local tribute band “The Tributaries.” Mindy was born and raised in Tucson, surrounded by a multitude of very musical family members. Learning harmonies at a very young age, she could hang in with the grownups at family parties. At age 18 she traveled with “Up With People.” She fell into professional singing at age 22 when one of her many cousins needed a female vocalist for his band. Since then, she’s enjoyed singing and touring with many different musicians, including a brief (but incredibly fun) stint singing backup for her aunt, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris on their Western Wall Tour.
Ronstadt Brothers (Michael G and Peter D)
Ronstadt Brothers, multi-instrumentalists Michael G and Petie Ronstadt, present a new and fresh take on original Southwestern folk music. Innovative material infused with the treasure of authentic roots music and Americana, the Ronstadt Brothers’ music takes audiences from the past to the present, carrying the sound that originated as a family legacy from their great grandfather Federico to aunt Linda and their father Michael J to new generations.
