The Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona Women’s Philanthropy Connections 2020 event with Dr. Ruth Westheimer, scheduled for Sunday, March 8, has been postponed due to concerns about COVID-19, aka coronavirus.
“Like many of you and all of us here at the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona, Dr. Ruth is concerned about the spread of Coronavirus and has chosen to reschedule her appearance at this Sunday’s Connections event. We have the utmost respect for this decision, and while we’d love to see all of you in person, we believe that given this public health crisis it is prudent not to go on with such a large gathering at this time. We will NOT be meeting at Loews Ventana Canyon this Sunday,” event co-chairs Karen Faitelson and Dana Goldstein said in an email Thursday afternoon.
“The good news is that Dr. Ruth has agreed to reschedule this event in autumn of 2020,” the email said. The new date is Oct. 14. 2020.
In addition, there will be a video interview with Dr. Ruth on Sunday morning. Women who had registered for the event will receive a follow-up email with a link to the video.
“We are acting out of an abundance of caution with regards to the health of our community. We are very grateful for your patience and understanding as we navigate this sudden and unfortunate change in plans. We know how excited you were to see Dr. Ruth in person, and share in your disappointment at this turn of events,” the email from the co-chairs said.
The Federation is requesting that those who were planning to attend allow it to hold registration fees and apply them to a future event, including the rescheduled Dr. Ruth event.
Those who purchased athletic wear items to donate to Youth On Their Own may drop them off at the Federation, located in the Harvey and Deanna Evenchik Center for Jewish Philanthropy, 3718 E. River Road.
