Tucson author RONI CAPIN RIVERA-ASHFORD’s bilingual book, “My Tata’s Remedies/Los remedios de mi tata,” received the American Library Association and REFORMA’s Pura Belpré award as a 2016 Illustrator Honor Book. The award is given annually to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator “whose work best portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth,” according to the ALA. Rivera-Ashford’s book was also cited as a Notable Children’s Book of 2016 by the Association for Library Service to Children.
MARTA KETCHEL, Ph.D., a psychologist in Tucson, received the Peter J. Attarian Award from the Southern Arizona Psychological Association at the organization’s holiday party. The award is given annually to a psychologist whose work advances the unity and prominence of psychologists in Southern Arizona.
