Joan Buchalter, 87, died Feb. 17, 2015.
Mrs. Buchalter was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., graduated from Erasmus Hall High School and attended the Pratt Institute of Art. She lived for 29 years in Rockville Centre, N.Y. and for the last 31 years in Tucson. Mrs. Buchalter volunteered at Tucson Medical Center in the maternity ward. She served as president of her neighborhood association, participated in O.R.T., Hadassah and Brandeis Women and was a member of Congregation Or Chadash.
Mrs. Buchalter was preceded in death by her son, Andrew P. Buchalter, and her husband of 63 years, Zachary Buchalter. Survivors include her daughter, Laurie (Larry Kohn) Buchalter of Madison, Wisc.; sister Rhoda Goodman; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Evergreen Mortuary with Cantor Janece Cohen of Congregation Or Chadash officiating. Interment followed in the Temple Emanu-El section of Evergreen Cemetery.
