Native Tucsonan GAYLE GALE received a certificate of recognition from the city of Los Angeles for her Kids for Peace tile mural “The Market of Peace, Happiness and Good Health,” created with 75 second graders from Hancock Park elementary school in Los Angeles and children from around the world. The mural, recently installed at the Original Farmers Market in Los Angeles, was first created in 1995 and was awarded the Fete D’Excelence Gold Medallion for outstanding youth arts program in Geneva, Switzerland at the United Nations. Gale, an artist and educator, received her BFA from the University of Arizona and her MFA from Otis College of Art and Design. Ilysha Adelstein Buss, another former Tucsonan who is the marketing director for the Original Farmers Market, commissioned the mural for the market.
