Maya Grace Levy, daughter of Nanci and Douglas Levy, will celebrate becoming a Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Temple Emanu-El.
She is the granddaughter of Ginette and Ronnie Ogur of Syosset, N.Y., and Judith and the late Alan Leonard Levy of Greenwich Village, N.Y.
Maya attends Tucson Hebrew Academy where she is a member of the girls basketball team and the yearbook committee and a secretary in student government. She also plays in the Tucson Jewish Community Center girls basketball league.
For her mitzvah project, Maya hosted a screening of the movie “Girl Rising,” about the power of education to change a girl and the world. She gave a brief presentation to the audience prior to the movie. Friends and family purchased more than 100 tickets, raising over $1,000 for several partner organizations that promote girls’ education. She did another presentation at the THA student government-led Passport to Peace this month.
