Makinley Wortzel, son of Cheryl and Jeff Wortzel, will celebrate becoming a Bar Mitzvah on Saturday, Dec. 6 with Congregation Or Chadash at the Tucson Jewish Community Center.
He is the grandson of Sandra and Kenny Wortzel, Marcy Merin and Lisa Newman, Terry and Dale Ruedebusch, all of Tucson, and Carol and Larry Grossheim of Pinetop, Ariz.
Great-grandparents are Doris and Arthur Dorfman, Rachel Wortzel and Brackston Whitaker, all of Tucson.
Makinley attends Esperero Canyon Middle School, where he enjoys singing in the school choir and playing soccer. He also loves video games, sports and taking care of animals.
For his mitzvah project, Makinley is collecting sports equipment to be donated to the Boys and Girls Club and volunteering at the Humane Society.
