Alan Cole

obit_coleAlan Howard Cole, 83, died July 23, 2014.

Born in Chicago, Mr. Cole served in the U.S. Air Force Dental Division for four years. He graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago, where he met his wife, Helen. He received a bachelor of science in biology and chemistry in 1959. He earned his master’s degree in secondary administration from California State University of Los Angeles.

Mr. Cole taught junior high and high school until 1969. The Coles opened Cole’s Baby News, a children’s department store in Goleta, Calif., and opened a second store in Ventura, Calif. In 1980, they moved to El Paso, Texas. In 1983, he returned to teaching. In 1994, Mr. Cole retired and they moved to Tucson.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; children, Lisa Cole of Tucson, and Ian Cole of Waco, Texas; and one grandchild.

Graveside services were held in the Congregation Ner Tamid section of Evergreen Cemetery with Rabbi Richard Safran officiating.
