GABRIELLE GIFFORDS will be honored as Woman of the Year by Emerge Arizona: Women Leaders for a Democratic Future at its annual event on Thursday, May 23 in Phoenix. The former Arizona congresswoman also received a Profile in Courage Award from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation on May 5 in Boston, in recognition of her personal, physical and political courage as she advocates for policy reforms aimed at reducing gun violence. Giffords and her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, started Americans for Responsible Gun Ownership on Jan. 8 of this year, the second anniversary of the shooting in Tucson in which she was seriously wounded.
