Louise Shapiro, 84, died Oct. 4, 2013.
Mrs. Shapiro was born in Alabama. Her family moved to New York City, where she graduated from Hunter College. She received her master’s degree in education from the University of Arizona. She met her husband, Norman, while working as a camp counselor in Philadelphia. They married in 1948 and moved to Tucson. She was an elementary school teacher for 32 years. She taught at Davidson Elementary School and Lynn’s Elementary School. She participated in religious services and activities at Congregation Anshei Israel and Handmaker. She volunteered for many years at University Medical Center as a patient relations ambassador, and at the Congregation Anshei Israel gift shop.
Mrs. Shapiro was preceded in death by her husband, Norman. Survivors include her children, Dr. Alan (Sallie) Shapiro of Virginia Beach, Va., Philip (Beatriz) Shapiro of Tucson, Susan (Heshy) of Israel and David (Ina-Sue) Shapiro of Chandler, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Evergreen Mortuary with Rabbi Robert Eisen officiating. Interment followed in the Congregation Anshei Israel section of Evergreen Cemetery.
