Israelpalooza, a one-day Israeli culture fest at the University of Arizona, will be held Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This year, the UA Hillel Foundation is partnering with Chabad of Tucson, Jewish Arizonans on Campus, the World Zionist Organization, Associated Students of the University of Arizona and Stand With Us to bring the flavors of Israel to the UA Mall. “Israelpalooza is a great opportunity for the community to learn about Israel, how it became a nation, and the cultural influences on its citizens,” says Michelle Blumenberg, UA Hillel executive director.
A student committee has been planning booths in an effort to re-create their favorite parts of Israel, including placing prayers in the Western Wall, discovering the healing properties of mud from the Dead Sea, experiencing life in a Bedouin tent, and tasting foods from the Machane Yehuda outdoor market. Participants can also test their knowledge of Israel with a trivia game, play Israeli games like matkot (beach tennis) or shesh besh (backgammon) and paint a camel for Wednesday “hump” day.
