Lorraine Mackstaller, M.D., is devoted to educating the public, especially women, about heart disease. She will present “Knowledge is Power” at Hadassah Southern Arizona’s luncheon on Sunday, May 19, at noon at Skyline Country Club.
Mackstaller is a clinical associate professor of medicine at the Arizona Health Sciences Center, where she became the first Edwin J. Brach Foundation and Hazel and Bertram Brodie Endowed Lecturer for Heart Disease in Women. Through this endowment she continues to further the educational mission of the Sarver Heart Center, where she also provides cardiology and primary care. She is a regular presenter on the television program “4 at 4,” speaking about general health issues with an emphasis on cardiovascular health.
Mackstaller has been associated with University Medical Center cardiology for nearly 37 years, starting as a clinical nurse specialist in 1974. She graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 1997. She completed her internal medicine residency in 2000, is board certified in internal medicine and coordinates the medical school cardiology elective. She is a past member of the Arizona Commission on Women’s Health, the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners and the Pima County Medical Society Board of Directors. She was recognized with a Patient’s Choice Award in 2005, the YMCA’s Women on the Move Award in 2005 and the Spirit of Philanthropy Award in 2011. She is active with many community
organizations including the American Heart Association, Angel Charity for Children, Las Familias, UApresents and UA Trauma Center Friends.
