Evelyn Bersh

Evelyn Barbarosh Bersh, 101, died Feb. 23, 2013.

Mrs. Bersh was born in Newark, N.J., raised her family in South Orange, N.J. , where she volunteered at the National Jewish Home for Asthmatic Children, and moved to Tucson in 1972. Playing piano by ear since age eight, Mrs. Bersh played for residents at Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging and at Atria Campana Del Rio for many years. She was an active member of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona, the Tucson Jewish Community Center, Hadassah and Congregation Anshei Israel. She worked each Election Day at the polls to age 95.

Mrs. Bersh was preceded in death by her first husband, Nathan Barbarosh and second husband, Victor Bersh, and her children, Allen, George and Maralyn. Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Gerry) Tumarkin of Tucson; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Evergreen Mortuary & Cemetery, with Rabbi Thomas Louchheim and Cantor Janece Cohen of Congregation Or Chadash officiating.
